Shetland lies at the north-western frontier of the European Union, over 200 miles north of Aberdeen. It comprises more than 100 islands, only 16 of which are inhabited. Shetland with its barren moors, lonely wild scenery and spectacular cliffs has over 900 miles of coast line. Shetland has a wealth of wildlife - including an extensive otter population, and there are frequent sightings of seals, porpoises, basking and porbeagle sharks, and even the occasional whale.
